“Well, she has proven to be a bit of a walking hazard.” Michael replies lightly, gaze turned briefly to the fluffy dog held to his chest as her little head comes to rest on his shoulder with a little huff. Princess indeed.  His smile sweetens at that just before his gaze flicks back to Blaine as the man continues speaking- just before a wholehearted chuckle is prompted from him.  A day of firsts sounded about right, he thinks as he considers just how hard it would be to teach this dog to trip handsome strangers.

Michael remembers once being told by a girl whose boyfriend apparently had been a customer of Michael’s in the past that his laugh was the only pure thing about him.  He certain hopes he had that left, but mostly he wonders how on earth she’d been so pleasant talking to a hooker her lover once took into a back alley.  Either way looking at the way Blaine’s smile lights up his face, Michael is fairly certain he’s just been beat.

“While she probably could learn tripping on command, I don’t think she’d be able to spot the handsome ones from her vantage point.”  It was a bit bold for him during the day.  Michael on his own truly wasn’t much of a flirt, not when he spent all night doing that, and certainly not when he knew perfectly well how bad it could turn out behaving in such a way around the wrong people- but a friendly spoken compliment to a friendly man, intent as lighthearted as it can be, should be safe enough.

“She has, hasn’t she?  Serial tripper in the works.  Better keep an eye on her,” his nose scrunched, eyes squinting like he was sharing some secret warning, “You know?  In case it starts becoming a habit.  Watch for warning signs.  All that stuff.”  Just when he thought the tiny, fuzzy ball of cute could make his heart melt anymore than it already had, Apple nuzzled into Michael’s neck and Blaine’s entire face softened into a look of utter ‘awwwwh!’.  Problem was?  When he got that look?  Apple had her work cut out for matching Blaine’s level of puppy dog eyes.

However, abrupt laughter made them wrinkle at their corners as Blaine stepped around a woman standing directly in the path of oncoming foot traffic chatting away on her phone.  Someone couldn’t do two things at once!  Thankfully, Blaine could and avoided an embarrassing collision with someone much bigger than Michael’s tiny companion..  Olive cheeks were flush with color thanks to the compliment.

“Maybe just letting her run into random strangers and taking a chance with fate might be a better idea?  Who knows who you’ll meet.  Or where you’ll end up.  Speaking of which?”  Blaine nodded towards the door of a brick front with a weathered white wooden door and several silver dog bowls sitting on the sidewalk out front.  “Here we are.  You first,” he held the door open and motioned for Michael and the puppy to go ahead.  Then snuck in a rub to her nose as they passed by.

Right as he saw Blaine’s lips curl up into a smile, Sebastian flashed one right back. It was impossible to see that grin full of brightness && not feel warm inside. ( In Sebastian’s experience, at least. ) He expected to get a surprised reaction, but not one so positive. But they never ended on a bad note, it was just a matter of drifting away. Something Sebastian thought about a lot. The phone calls turned into texts && eventually the texts turned into none at all. But now here he was, after making the impulsive choice to fly out to New York for a fresh start. It hadn’t hit the point where he felt like he had found his place in this city, but seeing this familiar face made him feel more than at home. It was a happy nostalgia, no storm clouds.

He’s done a lot of maturing since the high school days, he’s done some soul searching too. But still, his future was unknown. It was like he needed a puzzle piece to remind him who he really was. Of course, he would never admit to the fact that he knew the puzzle piece was Blaine Anderson. Hands in his pockets, he looks to the floor with the linger of his smile still present. It only took a short moment before he focused his stare back on Blaine, absorbing all of the moments that he’s missed with him in the span of seconds. An eyebrow raises, grin growing again the more he stares down at his lost love friend. Surprised to see me, huh? Trust me, I’m a little surprised I ended up here too. New York was never really my style. But my dads hopes of me attending law school wasn’t really doing me any good, so I dropped out && took a one way flight here. I’ve been living on my funds ever since. My father will be pretty pissed when he finds out I ruined his little master plan of me becoming a lawyer but until then I’m pretty satisfied. Pissing him off is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine.

Sebastian standing next to his table still felt like a dream.  One that was too good to be true. Too out there to really be happening.  The odds of them crossing paths in such a random encounter in one of the most populated cities in the world just never worked that way in real life.  Yet they did today.  Blaine’s mind was still blown.  Eyes locked on Sebastian’s as he absorbed the other’s presence and let it settle in that they were talking–in person–after whatever string of weird events that lead up to this.  Laughter.  How could he not laugh at the question? “Surprised is a good word.  I’m not sure if I can think of a better one.  We’ll go with surprised.”  So Sebastian’s showing up with movie quality perfect timing was thanks to him wanting to make his father have another reason to rant?  Blaine wasn’t sure if that was the greatest decision Sebastian made. His father didn’t need anymore goading than his lack of tolerance for anything out of his control–Sebastian in particular.  “You know he’s going to lose his mind but if you’re happy?  I’m glad you’re standing up for yourself and doing things your way.”  Any talk of Smythe Senior was best had with a lot of liquor to burn the taste out of both their mouths.

Blaine was never impressed by the man.  When it came to fathers?  They both missed out on the crapshoot that might’ve landed them ones either one were overly fond of.  He was lucky enough that his father was mostly absent with splashes of popping back home to remind him it was so much better when he was gone.  Sebastian’s was just always there making his son’s life hell.  Blinking out of his worry for Sebastian’s inevitable father-son confrontation–Blaine stood up. “I’m sorry.  It’s–still hard to believe that you’re here.”  Hazel met green and it took him more than one attempt to look away.  Stopped short of pulling out a chair–which was his initial intention–Blaine gave into impulse.  Like it’d been yesterday since they last saw each other–Sebastian was pulled into a tight hug with his would’ve-been-offered seat only halfway drawn out.  “It’s really good to see you,” Blaine softly mumbled over the top of his shoulder then pulled back and clasped both giving him a good once over now that they were this close.  A stuttering start later–he offered him his seat.  “P-Please, have a seat?  Unless you’re here to meet someone?”  Why was his heart suddenly beating faster as he hinged on what Sebastian would say?
